Thank You Prime Minister Abbott, and Minister Turnbull. Bring it on. ASAP.
Might be a bit of a leap to $1.50 but a rise in the basic postage rate (BPR) is a good start. Australia has the second cheapest BPR in the developed world. Canada is already at $1 and with the added attraction of the complete end to street delivery within the next 4 years. For most of the last century (the saying goes) the price of a stamp and the cost of the newspaper has been the same. This story linked above is reported in the Age Newspaper.
That paper cost $2.50 today, and as we all know, the stamp now cost 70c. That is a difference of $1.80 and there lies our problem, apparently.
Licensees and Postal workers and all the other associated stakeholder that rely on the postal network for our commercial future, need to fully support this BPR increase and the mail delivery reform. This is the way that this business will survive for the next century. These are products we must be selling, with enthusiasm, in all of our businesees.
