The Federal Parliament this week passed the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Vulnerable Workers) Act 2017 (the Act), with some last minute amendments agreed to by the Government. This new legislation marks a significant change in the risk profile for franchisors with respect to workplace relations matters, and specifically payment entitlements of employees within their franchise network. This is going to affect any Licensee who is an employee of their trading entity. It is fortutituots that we have been letting anyone listening that we have been underpaid for our activities for many years. Little wonder then that we are not able to pay ourself all the perks of the award world. Will be interesting to see how this is made to look like licensees are doing the wrong thing, when some of our pay rates are less than $5 per hour.
