There has been a fair bit of media attention, and concern from Licensees and our customers, about the call by DFAT for Expressions of Interest from interested parties to tender for the business opportunity to undertake Passport Processing, and what that will mean for LPOs. Australia Post has the current contract which runs until June 2017. Licensees need to support the current contract by adhering to the contract terms with APO. Its all about reducing errors to be under the 3% margin each month, making sure we comply with the regulations to the letter, and ensuring we are the preferred supplier for this work in the future.
One of our favourite Qld National Senators talking about his strong support for rural and remote LPOs, and how he is determined to see this through.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Seems like DFAT will be looking for a party that can comprehensively deliver the Passport Application Lodgement Services.
It sounds like cherry picking the good bits is not going to get over the line.
The Australian Government has called for expressions of interest from interested parties for accreditation to process Australian Passports, once Australia Post's current contract expires at the end of June 1017. As with most Government business, the contract will go to open tender and other interested parties can submit a tender to take on the processing of Passport applications. This should be an interesting process.
There has been an addendum published containing new information for the following business opportunity:
ATM ID: DFAT-131
ATM Title: Provision of Passport Application Lodgement Services
